Reproduction of a painting from the tomb of Khnumhotep II, a provincial governor in Beni Hasan, dating to 1900 BC. It shows the Tree of Life, a potent symbol and icon in ancient Egyptian mythology. The fruit of the tree was thought to provide eternal life and knowledge of the cycles of time. It is part of a much larger scene depicting Khnumhotep hunting in the marshes and netting birds.
